![]() Or maybe have a better idea for an app that’s needed but easier for learning purposes. So would it be worth writing this? Is there a demand for it? Are most Mac users, both power and regular users ok w finder? I thought this would be a good learning experience for writing Mac apps, but it’s too much if I’m doing it just for myself. Need a local db to keep everything in while the user is making changes, etc. You’re not just writing an app that takes screenshots or collects widgets, it’s messing with the file system and could have very ugly bugs that corrupt files, and whole systems. The issue w an app like this is it would be a huge undertaking because of the risk factors that come along with it. Or maybe another front end that’s more cross platform so it could be used on windows as well. Writing it in GO was my first thought while using Catylist as the front end. I’d kind of like to combine the best of all worlds while keeping it very performant. I’ve seen other windows explorer apps on windows that had more features, but they were written in too high of a language and the performance was terrible. ![]() But have a more full featured right click context menu, filters that are from this decade, full path textbox so able to paste the path in, better graphical representation on left where you are in file system, a gosh dang up button to traverse the directory up as many times as wanted, better traversal of the whole system so can get from pt a to pt b easier and a number of other features missing or just want. Except add tabs, better preview management, and definitely better searching as finder does do way better than WE. I’m actually a dev and was thinking of writing a file management app for Mac OS that’s similar to Windows Explorer. I’ve tried some other file explorers and none seem to have the “flow” that WE does. I’ve tried my hardest to get used to it, and have learned some of the quirks, but it still is a complete turd compared to WE. The biggest is finder for me, windows explorer is just so much better I think. Apps are thrown together quickly, are an after thought after iOS, or insanely expensive for what they are, etc. There seems to be a gap in the MacOS app market. There’s a number of things that I just can’t get used too though. I switched from windows to Mac because of the m1 about 7 8 months ago and just love the hardware.
